I’ve been hairdressing for 20 years, starting out at Academy Salons Hersham where I achieved NVQ level 1,2 & 3. I left to run my own salon for 16 years, but I’m pleased to be back in this fast-growing, 5-star group managing the Claygate salon.
I was very proud to have won ‘Manager of the Year’ and ‘Highest Re-booker’ this year, and my fantastic team has helped me take the salon to the next level, winning ‘Salon of the Year’.
Back in 1976, after working with hairdressing masters Helena Rubenstein and Etienne’s of London, I made it my goal to introduce London flair, Italian passion, cutting-edge techniques and the high-end salon concept to the suburbs of Surrey. My Cobham salon, Franco of Rome, was the forerunner of Academy Salons (est. 1999) and forged today’s client experience and company culture.
Academy Salons expanded in 2002 when I invited Salv to be my business partner to drive the company forward. I continue to work behind the chair, offering the same flair, creativity and passion to my clients, whilst sharing a wealth of experience with our growing team of stylists.
Working in a salon since the age of 13 as a Shampooist, I never dreamed of anything other than being a hairdresser. I left school at 16 and immediately started an apprenticeship, training with the Academy and Kingston College.
Having completed my NVQ level 2 and 3, I started work at Academy Salons, working my way up to Salon Manager and learning every step of the way. I’ve been here for 11 years now and have been a manager for the last 8 years.
I have worked for Academy Salons for 17 years and am now a senior educator. Starting out as a trainee at the original Hersham salon, I have since become a qualified hairdresser – NVQ level 2 and 3 – as well as being an education assessor, which is where my real passion lies.
I specialise in colour changes and colour corrections and also help to manage our education centre.
Head of Education
I started my career in London in 1962, training with Alan Spears – the leading hairdresser of the day. The hair and beauty industry is ever-evolving, so I’m continually honing my craft by attending training and creative development courses to bring the very best service to our clients.
I’m delighted to be able to share these hard-earned skills as Director of Training at the Academy.
I joined Academy Salons in 2005 when I was 15 years old as a Saturday Assistant. I was eager to pursue my dream of travelling and Academy was keen to help me expand my opportunities and experience. Returning from my travels in 2010, I had better focus on my career path and was welcomed back to Academy. Through training, I accomplished my NVQ Level 2 & 3, in addition to barbering qualifications.
I loved the training side of hairdressing and, in 2012, became a qualified Assessor and Senior Educator at the well regarded Academy Education training school. By continuing to develop my talent and leadership skills, I was appointed as the new Assistant Manager of the Esher Salon in 2016.
Head of Beauty
I joined the Academy Salons team in 2005 and together with Salv set up Academy Beauty Salons. Over the last 12 years, we’ve grown the beauty team from 2 therapists to a fantastic team of 8.
In September 2016, we opened our second beauty salon in Weybridge, which is growing rapidly and going from strength to strength. We’re looking forward to growing the brand further as new opportunities arise.
With over 30 years’ experience in the hair and beauty industry, I still have the same passion for creative and innovative hairdressing as I did all those years ago. Having started as an apprentice, as Salon Director, I’m responsible for the successful management of five busy salons and a team of 70+ staff.
My passion for education and learning has resulted in the launch of Academy Education, which consists of weekly in-house sessions for trainees and masterclasses for all levels of proficiency. My ambition is to develop Academy Education into a fully fledged training school – inspiring and motivating the personal growth of hair and beauty professionals.
I started with Academy Salons when I was 17 as an apprentice and completed my hairdressing NVQ level 1, 2 and 3 at the Academy Education training school. I loved the training process and wanted to become more involved, so I achieved my qualification as an Assessor. I’m also a member of the Artistic Team, which offers me the opportunity to expand my creative skills, working on photoshoots, presentations and fashion shows.
In 2015, I was appointed Manager of the Esher salon, and in January 2017, completed a course with Balmain to become a Balmain Educator for the South East, training and advising other salons and stylists in the art of hair extensions.
At Academy Salons, we don’t just offer a job, we offer our staff a career! If you would like to join the Academy Salons team and begin climbing the hair and beauty ladder, we would love to hear from you!
Our Training Academy has been producing some of the brightest hairdressing talent since 2000. Our mentors are top stylists and train over 100 students and professionals every year to the highest industry standards.
